Port St Lucie Fishing
The Port St Lucie area is home to some of the greatest fishing in the world. Whether you own your own boat or want to embark with one of the many local charter boat fishing companies you will be in for some of the best fishing of your life.
The Atlantic Ocean’s Gulf Stream runs offshore of Port St Lucie providing for excellent salt water fishing opportunities. Just a short ride off the coast you will begin to catch big fish such as yellow fin tuna, marlin, and even mahi mahi. Night fishing can lead to catching the big fish ever angler needs to add to his trophy wall, the swordfish. On rock piles and reefs you can sink a line and catch the Florida dinner plate favorite, grouper.
If you prefer to stay closer to the land when fishing, consider fishing in the Indian River. The Indian River is not really a river; it is actually part of the intercoastal waterway. This crystal clear salt water waterway is filled with prized fish such as redfish, tarpon, snook, and trout. Lucky fishermen may also catch a delicious pompano.
When fishing inshore try to fish near mangroves and under docks. Many of the local varieties of fish like to gather at theses places and make for an easy catch. Boats are not necessary to catch fish in Port St Lucie. Night fishing off docks during the warmer nights can lead to catching your limit of snook.
The Port St Lucie area also offers excellent freshwater fishing. Whether you fish in one of the many lakes or in the St. Lucie River you are likely to catch fish varieties such as bass and catfish. While fishing in the lakes and rivers, be sure to keep your eye out as you are likely to see alligators and manatees.
